He graduated from Belfield High School in 1956 and from Dickinson State College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1960, Dale took his first teaching job in Crane, OR. He then joined the United States Army in 1962 and served until 1964. In the fall of 1964, Dale took his next teaching assignment in Wilton. During his time in Wilton, he coached the football, basketball and track teams and also met the love of his life. Dale married his sweetheart, Joy Rise on June 11, 1965. They made their home in Wilton until 1970. Also through his time in Wilton, during the summers, he completed his Master's degree from the University of North Dakota. In the winter of 1970, Dale and Joy were blessed with their son, Dale Jr. In the fall, they made a move to Killdeer, where Dale was hired to be High School Principal. In 1971, they were again blessed, this time with their daughter, Jodie Ann. They lived in Killdeer until 1975 when Dale was hired in New Salem as the Superintendent of Schools. Dale and Joy made their lifelong home in the community of New Salem. During his 20 years serving as Superintendent, he was a member of numerous boards, committees and organizations surrounding education. He was a member of the North Dakota High School Activities Association for four years, where he served as President in 1993. Dale retired in 1995. During retirement, Dale enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities, fishing, honing his woodworking hobby (which truly was a gift), golfing, and playing pinochle with the boys at the café. He also worked as an insurance adjuster for two years. It was during retirement that Dale was confronted with more medical anomalies than any one person should have to. Although the past twenty years, he was faced with cancer, stroke and heart disease, he continued to be the stoic man who was the pillar of his family. He left a legacy in his community and with his family in the way he lived his life. Anyone who knew Dale, knew he was honest, sincere and filled with integrity. Dale is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joy; his children, Dale (Missy), Bismarck and Jodie (Harlan) Doll, New Salem; his grandchildren, Hailie, Jacie, Jake and Maddie; his sisters, Angeline (Francis) Karel, Buhl, ID and Gloria (David) Warner, Annandale, MN; his brothers, Floyd (Muriel), South Heart, Lants (Barb), Belfield, Louie (Mary), Killdeer, Joe (Brenda), Brookshire, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
