Gilbert Krecklau, 76, Bismarck, died August 14, 2015, at the Fargo VA Medical Center. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 21, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 801 East Denver Ave, Bismarck, with Rev. Les Wolfgram officiating.Visitation will be held from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, August 20, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.Burial will be held at a later date at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.Gilbert George Krecklau was born September 26, 1938, in Zap, ND, the son of Carl and Martha (Beck) Krecklau. Upon graduation from Stanton High School in 1956, he entered the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1959. He worked at Hal's Standard then Sweeney Brother's as a mechanic. He started working for John Deere as a mechanic then ended as parts manager. In 1983, John Deere sold the store, and he went on the road, as a professional truck driver until he retired in 2000, to take care of his wife, Phyllis.Gilbert enjoyed snowmobiling and motorcycle riding, playing pool, reading western novels, playing computer games and was building a scale model of the navy ship he served on, he was also an avid Texas Hold 'em player.Gilbert is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his son, Curtis (Lynell) Krecklau; three grandsons, Taylor, Andrew, and Aaron; and his brother, Virgil Krecklau.He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Martha; and one brother, Elwood.
