Elsie Whitman

Elsie Whitman, 94, formerly of Robinson, ND, died October 10, 2015, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 16, at the Robinson United Methodist Church, Robinson, with Rev. Steve Behrens officiating. Burial will be held at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Robinson. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Thursday, October 15, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Avenue, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Elsie was born May 14, 1921, the daughter of William and Mathilda (Seher) Remmich. She had seven sisters and two brothers. Elsie graduated from Steele High School in 1940. She worked at the County Judge and Clerk of Court office in Steele before getting married. Elsie married Frank Whitman on June 13, 1943. Their first two years of married life were spent living on his parents' farm. Frank and Elsie then moved to Pettibone to manage their own dairy and grain farm. They had five children, Myron, Joyce, Nancy, Frank, and Elizabeth. In 1960, they moved to Lake Williams to manage the grocery store, elevator, and lumber yard (Whitman's Inc.). In 1985, Elsie moved to Robinson to be site manager for Whitman Apartments. She was also the cook for the Robinson Senior Center. Elsie retired in 2008 and moved to Steele, ND. She spent her last four years at Golden Manor until she broke her hip in March of this year. Elsie is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Ivan) Thomsen, Nancy (Monroe) Madson, and Elizabeth Whitman; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and six sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her sons, Myron and Frank; her parents; one sister and two brothers.
