Andrew F. Delzer, 84, passed away October 16, 2015, at his home in Bismarck, North Dakota. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, at 10:00 AM at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel in Bismarck. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Andrew was born to Gottlieb and Katherine Delzer on July 10, 1931, in Ashley, North Dakota. He grew up in Ashley and graduated from Ashley High School in 1950. He moved to Bismarck, North Dakota upon graduation and began work with Northwest Bell Telephone Company in October 1950 as a lineman. He was drafted into military service on October 18, 1951. He served in Korea with the 955th field artillery battalion. As a corporal, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with "V" for Valor during enemy attacks on Whitehorse Mountain and Arrowhead Ridge on October 8, 1952. He volunteered to repair wirelines between his battalion and its forward observation post. He repaired the wire while under enemy fire, reestablishing the landline communication between the battalion and its observation post. He was honorably discharged from the Army on July 20, 1953, as a sergeant first class. Upon his discharge, he returned to Bismarck where he continued his employment with the telephone company. In 1962, he married Bertha Parsons from McClusky, North Dakota. They moved to Minot, North Dakota, along with Bertha's two sons, Lloyd and Mike Parsons. He worked throughout the state of North Dakota for Northwest Bell while living in Minot. In 1970, he was transferred to Bismarck, continuing his work with Northwest Bell until his retirement January 27, 1981. Andy enjoyed working outside in his yard and garden. He was an active member of the Eagles Club where he served as gaming manager and was treasurer of the club for many years. He also volunteered his time to Bismarck Crime Stoppers. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Bertha of 53 years, two step-sons and their families which include four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
