Arvada was born in Beulah, ND, on November 4, 1932, to Ludwig and Salome Sailer. She was one of ten children. She graduated from Beulah High School in 1951. After holding several jobs, she got married June 20, 1954, to Clayton Schramm in Beulah. The newlyweds then moved to Fort Bragg, NC, where her husband began in military service. After his discharge, they moved back to Bismarck.
Sassy, witty, loving and energetic would begin to describe her personality. And in 1960, when she was born again, her focus on life became bringing others to Christ. She devoted 25 years visiting shut-ins; 25 years working with refugees, teaching them to speak English; taught Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and Confirmation Class; made quilts for Orphan Grain Train; sang in the church choir; and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts; but more than anything her passion in life was to share her love of Jesus and His eternal salvation.
Her love for life and people included friends, neighbors, strangers, animals, and especially her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In the summertime, her roses and her garden were tended with the greatest of care. And, if you were lucky enough, you received a personalized poem written especially for you.
Arvada is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Clayton Schramm; two sisters, Lorraine (Ray) Mohl and Florence (Virgil) Sailer; two sons, David Schramm and Steve (Faeza Bassmagi) Schramm; two daughters, Susan (Terry) Helm and Bethany Unruh; ten grandchildren, Faith Wall, Stephanie (Michael) Little, Joshua Unruh, Jeremiah Unruh, Autumn Schramm, Brittany (Jacob) Arellano, Jessica Figueroa, Brian Figueroa, Jeremiah Helm, Jesse (Carmen) Helm; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Salome; five brothers, Otto Sailer, Louie Sailer, Adolf Sailer, Jacob Sailer, and Reuben Sailer; and two sisters, Hertha Wahler and Salome Sailer.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Arvada is asking that donations be made in her name to Open Door Baptist Church, for them to utilize in their children’s program.
