Jack Heyne

Jack Heyne, 67, Carson, died Oct. 27, 2015, at Edgewood Vista, Mandan. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 2, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Larry Giese officiating. Visitation will be held at Eastgate Funeral Service on Sunday, November 1, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm CST Monday, Peace Cemetery, Heil, ND. Jack was born on April 3, 1948, to August and Mildred (Sebastian) Heyne. He grew up in Heil, ND and graduated from Elgin High School in 1966. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He graduated from Paratrooper training at Fort Benning, GA. and was stationed in Alaska and Vietnam. A year after Jack returned from Vietnam, he was paralyzed in a car accident. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Southwestern State College (Marshall, MN) and his master’s degree from Emporia State College (Emporia, KS). Jack dedicated his life to working with veterans and people with disabilities. He spent the majority of his career working for the State of North Dakota as a rehabilitation counselor. After retiring, Jack moved to Carson North Dakota and worked as the Veteran’s Service Officer for Grant County. Jack was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Jack enjoyed playing horseshoes, cards, and pool with his friends, as well as hunting and camping with his sons. When he wasn’t doing these things, you would find him reading a book and enjoying time with family and friends. Jack is survived by his sons, Justin (Carly), Whitefish, MT, Corby (Kristin), Grand Forks, ND, Chris (Beth), Bismarck, ND, Joe (Kristen), Lemoore, CA, Cliff (Aimee), Bismarck, ND, and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia (Dale) Monson, Saint Cloud, MN, and Jo’an (Harold) Huber, Jacksonville, FL, and four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
