Leo Elroy Schmidt

Leo Elroy Schmidt, 88, Bismarck, died November 12, 2015, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at McCabe United Methodist Church in Bismarck with Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will greet visitors on Monday evening beginning at 6:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service where a Moose Ritual Service will be held at 7:00 PM. Leo was born on January 8, 1927, in Martin, ND, the son of Emil and Lydia (Dockter) Schmidt. He was raised and attended school in Martin, ND. Leo married Herda Schauer on October 29, 1965, in Herreid, SD. Leo worked for the Soo Line Railroad from 1945 – 1947 and then installed furnaces from 1947 – 1952. He then went to work for the Highway Department where he worked until he retired in 1988. He was a lifetime member of the Bismarck Moose Lodge #302 where he held many offices. Leo is survived by two daughters, Debbie Schmidt of Bismarck, and Renea (Bob) Dalbol of Jamestown; two sons, Harvey Schmidt of Dickinson, and James Schmidt of Bismarck; one step-daughter, Vonne (Bill) Kleven of Alexandria, WA; one stepson, Verdun (Jacque) Schauer of Bismarck; two brothers Leroy Schhmidt of Minot, and Melvin Schmidt of Minot; three sisters-in-law, Helen Schmidt, Agnes Schmidt, and Irene Schmidt; his grandchildren, Andrew Dalbol, Alicia (Travis) Gunwall, Kory (Dave) Hagler, Randy Schauer, Dawn (Ron) Aberle, Kristie (Jerry) Anderson, Lora (Phil) Casey, and John Kleven; and his great-grandchildren, Kitana Schmidt, Kadyen Redich, Kobie Redich, Lexi Hagler, Kyle Hagler, Jaela Schauer, Adam Aberle, Marie Aberle, Gabe Aberle, Brooke Aberle, Tanner Anderson, Josephine Anderson, and Sophie Anderson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Herda; his parents; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Emery (Elma), Ray, Arnold, Dale (Annie), Lillian, and Elmer; and his step-son, Dennis Schauer.
