Lenora Eleanore Schell was born on July 9, 1933, to John and Ida Schell in Mercer, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church south of Mercer. She attended the local country school near Mercer.
One night at a dance in Mercer, she met the love of her life, Stanley Thompson. They were married in Olympia, WA, on June 13, 1953. Lenora returned to Bismarck while Stanley completed his tour of duty in Germany. She was employed at Bismarck Hospital. After Stanley returned, they started farming near Strasburg, ND. In 1958, they purchased a farmstead south of Wing, ND, where they raised small grains and milked cows. While on the farmstead, they were blessed with three sons, Roger, Larry, and Ron, and one daughter, Debbie. Ron earned his nickname, Cookie, since he could never keep his hands out of the cookie jar. They moved into Bismarck in 1988 and entered the Mandan Living Center in 2010. Stanley passed away on June 30, 2012.
Lenora was active in the Wing Homemakers Club, and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church group. She loved to square dance, play whist, and cook. Her children always came first. She loved visiting with others and you never left her house hungry. She always had a smile on her face even when she was faced with adversity.
