Martha Schmidt, 97, passed away at the Baptist Health Care Center, December 3, 2015.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 7, 11 AM at the Baptist Health Care Center Chapel, 3400 Nebraska Drive, Bismarck, with Chaplain Merle Hoots officiating.
Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Harrison, Helena, MT.
Martha was born September 14, 1918, to Karl J. and Barbara (Nathan) Schock on the family farm near Elgin, ND. She graduated from Elgin High School and took business courses at ND State School of Science, Wahpeton. Martha married John Schmidt, Glen Ullin, ND, on March 19, 1945 at Butte, MT. They lived in Townsend, MT for most of their married life. Martha was employed by banks in Elgin, ND and Townsend, MT and then worked at Neifert-White Company and Townsend Lumber Company for 38 years. She sang in the Townsend United Methodist Church choir and was active in United Methodist Women at her church for many years. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary, East Helena, MT, and the American Legion Auxiliary, Townsend, MT. Martha moved to Bismarck, ND in 2007 to be near her sister Viola Sebastian and nieces and nephews.
Martha is survived by her sister Viola Sebastian, Bismarck; and sisters-in-law Viola Schock, Mandan; Corrine Schock and Violet Schock, Elgin; and Marcella Schock, Sun City West, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, in 2003, her siblings Karl Schock, Gustav Schock, Lydia Schock, Leontina Brandt, John Schock, Magdalena Becker, Elsie Stern, Reinhold Schock, Roland Schock, Arthur Schock and August Schock.
