Patti Jean Land was born on July 16, 1965, to Randy and Phyllis Land and grew up on the family farm north of Kulm, ND. She attended Kulm Public School, participating in sports and music. Her love for music led to her playing various instruments, piano being the favorite. She loved being social, and church activities were very important to her. At a young age she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior, receiving the gift of salvation.
After high school graduation in 1983 Patti moved to Bismarck and attended Bismarck State College where she earned an Associates Degree. On December 4, 1992, she married Jay Risk. Two precious children, Grant and Allie, were born into this family. Patti worked at various businesses and clinics in Bismarck including Covenant Children, Lester Chiropractic, Chuppe Chiropractic, St. Alexius Human Resources and Social Services, Kroll’s Diner, Melby Accounting, Eye Center of the Dakotas, and most recently Dakota Eye Institute. She was also a beloved piano teacher of many young students. Patti’s church family at Evangel Assembly of God was very important to her and she was active in the music ministry, especially as the choir accompanist for 20 years. She used her piano and singing talents on many occasions in the church and community.
Many people have been touched by Patti’s life. Anyone who knows her has seen how she can light up a room by just showing up with her bright smile and beautiful appearance. She could also fill any space with her amazing God-given ability to play the piano or sing. She had wonderful gifts of writing poetry, cooking for family and friends, decorating her home, gardening, accounting, housekeeping, bargain shopping, mothering and mentoring.
Patti is survived by her husband Jay, her son Grant, and her siblings Tom (Carol) Land, Bismarck, Dean (Joy) Land, Kulm, Jan Lindgren, Fargo, and Bruce (Andrea) Land, Kulm.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Allie, and her parents.
