Anthony “Tony” was born February 6, 1931, at rural Pettibone ND, on the family farm. He was the son of Henry and Mary Mack. At age 5, Tony started attending Petersville Country School, in which he only could speak German. He worked on the family farm until the age of 20, and then went off to serve his country during the Korean War. Tony was a tank gun operator, and through the years, he always wore his Korean War Veteran caps with pride.
Upon his return from the war, Tony met his future bride, Doris Schumacher, and within a year, became husband and wife. They were united in marriage on November 23, 1954.
Tony and Doris had three children, Catherine, Anna, and Steven. Together they raised their children on their farm 12 miles north of Pettibone, and attended Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Williams, ND.
Tony loved farming and ranching. His cattle were his “girls” and they were treated like special pets. He was a very kind, compassionate husband and father; always slow to anger.
When Tony and Doris retired, they moved into Pettibone. In the latter years, due to Tony’s health, they moved to assisted living in Steele, ND, and after a fall, Tony was moved to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, where he resided until his passing.
Tony always enjoyed the years he was a part of the KFYR Tractor Trek, and restoring an old John Deere Tractor. He loved playing cards with his family, and the love for his bride never grew dim, it shone for all to see. His children, grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters were the joy of his life.
Tony is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris; his daughters, Cathy (widow of the late Wade Unterseher), of Bowdon, ND, and Anna (Terry) Wald of Bismarck; his son, Steve (Brenda) of Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Jesse (Andrea) Wald, Lance (Katie) Wald, Mitch (Amanda) Wald, all of Bismarck, Megan Mack, (Scott Kramer), Seattle, WA, Bryce Mack, Minneapolis, MN, Slade Unterseher, Bismarck, Cheyenne (Riley) Schriefer, Golden Valley, ND, and Cassidy (Zac) Peterson, Velva, ND; Tony’s two great-granddaughters, Zander and Paisley Wald, children of Lance and Katie Wald; one sister, Lenora Kutz; and three brothers, Andrew, Joseph, and Simon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Mack; his sisters and brothers, Mary Stenerson, Leopoldina Schumacher, Henry, Stanley, and Joe and Anna in infancy; and his son-in-law, Wade Unterseher.
Tony touched hearts where ever he went, and was loved by many. He will be greatly missed.
