Alice Eckhardt, 92, Bismarck, died February 17, 2016, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 27, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place.
Alice was born March 16, 1923, at the family homestead near Baldwin, ND, to Walter and Esther (Christiansen) Simons. She was raised on a farm west of Baldwin. Her early education was in rural schools and she later attended Bismarck High School.
Alice began her banking career in Bismarck, and moved to Los Angeles, CA, in 1942, where she joined Bank of America NTTSA. She held several positions within that bank prior to being appointed as the first woman bank manager in 1966 in Burbank, CA. Notably, she was the seventh woman manager in southern California. Alice retired in December 1983, and moved back to Bismarck to care for her mother.
Alice married George Eckhardt on July 3, 1968. George died on May 24, 1969, in San Diego, CA.
Alice was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She loved theater productions and music, especially jazz, and enjoyed playing cards. She was a very giving, caring individual, always attentive to others needs and visible to embrace them with her help.
Alice is survived by her sister, Beverly Jacobs, Bismarck; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; two brothers, Ray and Hugh Simons; and five sisters, Fern Wheeler, Grace Karges, Marvel Crum, Elaine Kent, and Lourene Carlson.
