Floyd, son of Emil and Christina (Doctor) Kummer, was born on July 24, 1930, in rural Lincoln Valley, ND. He attended school in Sheridan County from grades 1 – 8. Floyd married Edna Schmidt on June 4, 1955 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before her death in 2005.
Floyd joined the US Army in 1950. He went to Korea in 1951 and served there for 11 months. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
Floyd worked for the Great Northern Railroad for three years, at Copper Smelter in Anaconda, MT, for two years, and at a machine shop in Racine, WI, for two years. He then helped build the Interstate system, and worked on the missile sites and power plants until his retirement in 1992.
Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, and collecting rare coins, old toy cars, and old toy tractors.
Grateful to have shared in his life are his three daughters, Cheraine (Thomas) McDonald of Bismarck, Rayetta (Edward) Marquart of Minot, and Roxanne (David) Tuchscherer of Otsego, MN; two sisters-in-law, Alvina Kummer and Bonnie Kummer; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and as our father left this world on his journey to Heaven, he left knowing his latest great-grandson was born on the same day.
