Kenneth J. Klug, 78, Bismarck, died February 21, 2016, at his home.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm Monday, May 9, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
Family will greet visitors from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm Monday at Parkway Funeral Service.
Burial will be held at 3:00 pm Monday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Ken was born on December 13, 1937, in Dickinson, ND, to Ralph and Leah Klug. He attended school in Mandan where he spent his childhood until 1955 when he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for four years abroad the aircraft carrier, USS Leyte. He was stationed at Quonset Point, RI, and San Diego, CA.
After his discharge, he returned to Mandan and began working for Cloverdale Foods and subsequently the US Postal Service where he began his career at the Mandan Post Office in 1963 being hired as a clerk/carrier. He transferred to the Bismarck Post Office in 1973 as a clerk. His positions at the Bismarck Post Office included tour supervisor, Director of Mail Processing, Director of Finance, Director of Customer Services, and appointment as Postmaster at the Bismarck office in 1992. He retired from the Postal Service in 1998. He was employed part-time at the North Dakota Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division from 2004-2015.
Following his retirement from the Postal Service, he and his wife, Debbie, enjoyed spending winters in San Diego, CA. He enjoyed golfing, boating/water skiing, and his fishing trips to Canada. Ken loved being Grandpa/Opa to his 12 grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Debbie; his daughter, Brenda Brown, Gwinner; his son, Douglas (Lori), Mt. Top, PA; his daughter, Michelle (Koen) De Geest, Portland, OR; and his daughter, Daniella (Victor) Perlroth, Palo Alto, CA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Garrett and Payton Brown, Jennifer and Cassandra Klug, Grant, Julia, and Greta Brown, Leo De Geest, Ashton, Zander, Elias, and Olive Perlroth. He is also survived by three sisters, Patricia Kautzman, Bismarck, Linda Weller, Mandan, and Nadine (Nick) Ressler, Mandan; sister-in-law, Rita Klug, Mandan; brother-in-law, Dale (Dorothy) Patrick, Bismarck; sister-in-law, Cathy (Paul) Renick, Grand Forks; and sister-in-law, Ruth (Craig) Vogel, Westminster, MD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ralph and Michael; his sister-in-law, Geraldine Klug; and his brother-in-law, Daniel Kautzman.
Memorials may be given to the local Salvation Army.
