George E. Monroe, 79, McKenzie, ND, passed away on March 15, 2016, at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. George was born on August 22, 1936, to Clyde and Tina (Harms) Monroe. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1954 and then attended two years at Bismarck Junior College. He married Janis Ellefson on June 7, 1975, and together they raised their only daughter, Rebecca Ann. George dedicated his life to farming and ranching. He took over the family farm in 1977. He loved his occupation and especially loved ranching. George had an Irish grin and a constant twinkle in his eye. He was stubborn as a bull but a very good man at heart. He cared a great deal for his loved ones and was a good, loyal friend. George is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Ann Monroe of McKenzie, ND; and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Tina Monroe; his wife, Janis Monroe; an infant sibling; and numerous friends and family.
