Anna Clooten, 82, Bismarck, died peacefully in her sleep on March 16, 2016, at Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at Church of Corpus Christi in Bismarck with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck where a vigil service will begin at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Anna Delores Hammling was born to Leo and Rose (Heidt) Hammling on August 18, 1933, in Bismarck, ND. She attended St Mary’s Catholic School and graduated in 1952. After graduation, she immediately went to work for Woolworths until 1962, and then at Dakota National Bank and First National Bank until 1967.
Anna married LeRoy Clooten on October 28, 1967, and they built their life together on the Clooten family farm. To this union two children were born, Colette and Craig. Her favorite job was being a mother and a farm wife.
She was known as “Grandma Ann” by all, especially the kindergarten classes at Rita Murphy Elementary School, where she worked as a teacher’s aide through the Foster Grandparent’s Program from 2000 – 2014. She also volunteered at the Burleigh County Senior Center, preparing Meals on Wheels, and taking care of the Plant Room.
She enjoyed reading, embroidery, visiting and spending time with her family and friends.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Colette (Joe) Sabot; her son, Craig (Amy) Clooten; her sisters-in-law, Blanche Hammling and Anna Mary Hammling Jochim; her grandchildren, Megan and Dylin Clooten and Wyatt and Morgan Rose Sabot; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and numerous lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy who died November 10, 1998; her brothers, Leo and Eugene Hammling; and her parents, Leo and Rose (Heidt) Hammling.
