LeRoy was born on February 9, 1932, in Horace, ND, to Alfred and Agnes (Joyal) Trottier. He grew up with his nine siblings on the family farm in Horace and graduated high school from St. Joseph’s Academy in Wild Rice, ND, in 1950. After high school, LeRoy enlisted in the US Army with his brother Raymond at Ft. Lewis, WA. He served in the 687th Engineering Company and was deployed to France and Germany during the Korean War before being discharged in 1953.
LeRoy met the love of his life, Mae Conklin, at a St. Patrick’s Day dance in the Horace Legion Hall in 1956. They were married at the St. Benedict Church of Wild Rice on July 13, 1957. The couple moved to Bismarck in 1960 where they raised their family. LeRoy worked for Midwest Development Corporation, where he helped develop Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemeteries in North Dakota. Starting in 1969, he would spend the rest of his career in real estate, the last 20 years with his friends at Midwestern Real Estate.
LeRoy enjoyed being physically active. He helped lead Horace to a state championship in fast-pitch softball in 1956. He was an avid reader, weightlifter, walker, and gardener. He was proud of his military service and organized and attended several Army reunions. LeRoy loved to entertain and all were welcome at his home and could expect country music, pinochle, and a glass of wine. He was known to have a great sense of humor and quick wit. In his later years, he looked forward to winters in Arizona with his brothers. LeRoy was a man who was strong in his Catholic faith, attending daily mass and volunteering at the church. He enjoyed watching his fifteen grandchildren grow up and attended countless ball games, musical and dance performances. He loved and was proud of each of them.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Mae; his daughter, Michelle (Kevin) Geohring of Ft. Collins, CO, and their children, Jason, Kaitlin, Matthew, and Christopher; his son, Michael of Bismarck and his children, Isaac and Samuel; his son, Patrick (Deanne) of Breezy Point, MN, and their children, Brooke, Zach, Karlie, Cole, and Quinn; and his son, Daniel (Kolette) of Bismarck and their children, Sydney, Jackson, Reece, and Kade.
