Frank “Riley” Eide, 82, Bismarck, died March 24, 2016, at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Monday, March 28, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Craig A. Schweitzer officiating.
Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Monday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Sunday, March 27, at Parkway Funeral Service.
Riley was born in Buffalo Springs, ND, in 1933, the son of Theodore and Ethel (Riley) Eide. He graduated from Bucyrus North Dakota High School and attended one year at Dickinson State College. He worked several jobs between college and 1962: in the U.S. Army, City police, Hettinger, ND, Deputy Sheriff, Adams County, ND, electrician and operated a County Road Grader.
In July of 1962 he started his employment with Knife River Coal Mining Company at Gascoyne, North Dakota. In September of 1962 Riley moved to Beulah, ND, as an electrician, and was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor then Assistant Superintendent. He was later transferred back to Gascoyne, ND, as Superintendent in 1974. Riley remained at that Mine until his promotion to General Superintendent in 1984 and was then transferred to the Bismarck Knife River Office, retiring in 1993.
Riley joined the North Dakota National Guard at age 15, and retired from the U.S. Army as Chief Warrant Officer-4 with 27 years of service in 1975.
Riley married Karen in 1984, and she passed March 2015 at home.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, American Legion, AMVETS, Eagles, Elks, National Rifle Association, 164th Infantry Association, Bismarck rifle and pistol club, U.S. Golf Association, Charter Member of the PGA Partners Club, Charter Member U.S. Golf Society. He joined the Masonic lodge in Bowman, ND, in November 1975. He was raised to Master Mason on March 12, 1975. Became Master of Lodge # 92, Bowman in 1981, 50 years after his father was Master of the same lodge. Riley was initiated into the Shrine in June 1989, was Circus chairman and/or treasurer until 2015. He was Secretary/Treasurer and Past President of El Zagal Oilers, President of Missouri Slope Shrine Club - Hospital Representative for this area to the Shrine Hospital Twin Cities Unit. Riley was presented the Samsar Award in January 2000 by Potentate Devine Ochsner.
Riley enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, reading, sport shooting, some golf repair, and traveling.
Riley is survived by his children, Rick & family, Bismarck, ND, Riley & family, Hazen & Bismarck, ND, Randy & family, Rapid City, SD, Rory & family, Colorado Springs, CO, Heather & family, St Michael, MN, Mike & family, Bismarck, ND, Brad Miller & family, Bismarck, ND, Stacy Miller & family, Bismarck, ND, Jill Miller & family, Burnsville, MN;15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen.
