Nona Bell, "Stoney", Kahler, (Wise), age 94, formerly of Tuttle, ND, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 6, at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle, with Rev. Valerie Kinlan officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, April 5, at Eastgate-Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele.
Burial will be at the Tuttle Cemetery.
Nona was born in Steele, ND, to Harley Odell and Effie May Wise. She graduated from Dawson High School in 1940, and was a member of the 1939 and 1940 Dawson Girls Basketball team. She married Robert, "Bob,” Kahler on Sept. 12, 1942, in Colorado Spring, CO. They returned to Tuttle where they owned and operated Tuttle Billiards for 31 years. Nona was active in the community as a member of the English Lutheran Church, a member of the Tuttle school board and the Lawrence Thieling Post #6833 Ladies Auxiliary.
Her love of horses started early and continued throughout her life. From riding her favorite buckskin, Nellie, at age 5, to training their thoroughbred race horses, to going to the horse races in Phoenix when she came to visit her kids. For several years, she traveled to Arizona to spend the winters near her family. In 2014, she moved to Mesa, AZ, full-time.
Nona is survived by her daughter, Linda Andersen; son, Wallace and his wife, Lois; son; Virgil and his wife, Barbara; two grandsons, Nick (Angie) Kahler and Robert (Shannon) Kahler and five granddaughters, Lana (Mike) Seagren, Lisa (Marvin) Selk, Ronetta Andersen, Renee (Rick) Strohmayer and Lindsey (Shane) Carrillo; 10 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her sisters, Delia Wise, Dorothy Teske, Florence Wise; brothers, Arthur, Edwin, David and Ralph; granddaughter, Lori Kahler Waltsak (Wally Kahler).
