Francis (also widely known as Kaiser) was born in Hague, ND, on May 16, 1926, to Raymond and Magdalena (Miller) Schall. He grew up working with his father in the Hague hardware store and was a graduate of Hague High School, class of 1943. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Navy. There he served his country in World War II in the Philippines from 1944-1946. On June 13, 1950, he married Mildred Baumgartner in Saint Mary’s Church in Hague. He was a bulk gas salesman for Standard Oil for many years before he and Millie moved to New Hope, MN. There he worked in construction for a bit before settling into a career as a truck driver with Peterson Seed. Francis loved to drive and after his retirement from Peterson Seed, he drove a school bus for several years. Francis was a man of deep faith and was active for many years at The Church of Saint Raphael’s in Crystal, MN and then at the Church of the Ascension in Bismarck. He was a Knight of Columbus (Hague chapter), member of the Bismarck Elks, and a member of the AMVETS.
