Curtis L. “Curt” Peterson, 73, Bismarck, passed away at Sanford Health, Bismarck, from complications tied to Alzheimer’s disease.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, April 1, 2016, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Pam Power officiating.
Family will be receiving guests from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, March 31, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Cremation has taken place.
Curt was born on August 27, 1942 in Northwood, ND, to Emil C. and Cora (Loe) Peterson. He graduated from Northwood High School in 1960. He went on to graduate from Mayville State, and later received a masters degree from NDSU.
Curt taught math and science in Hillsboro, ND at the start of his career, and was assistant principal. He was Superintendent of Schools in Oriska, Litchville and Linton, ND. During these years he was active in local commercial clubs, Jaycees, Lions and Toastmasters. He served on the church council as President of 1st Lutheran in Litchville and Peace Lutheran in Linton. He also served as youth advisor at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.
In 1976, the family moved to Bismarck, where Curt began employment with Associated General Contractors of ND. Curt represented the contracting industry’s legislative and regulatory interests as their Executive Vice President until his retirement in 2005. During this time he served as the President of the AGC of America Executive Council. In 2006, he was inducted into the ND Highway Hall of Honor.
Curt was a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church, where he ushered and served on various committees. He also served on the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Board, and as President. He had a life-long passion for golf, and “snuck out” to play as often as he could – both near and far. He was a member at Apple Creek Country Club and served on the club’s board of directors. He also had a great interest in aviation and obtained his pilot’s license. He flew for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Maureen (Grina), sons Mike and Scott of Fargo, ND, Jeff (Lori) of Eagan, MN, and grandchildren Tess and Quinn who brought him laughter and mischief. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lois Peterson, of Northwood, ND, his brother-in-law, Dennis (Carol) Grina, of Fergus Falls, MN, and his sister-in-law, Gloria (Dennis) Overby, of Northwood, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law Gary and Gert Grina, his brother, Donavan, and nephew Eric Grina.
