Sally was born March 4, 1934, to John and Nadine (Niess) Mayer in Toledo, OH. She was raised and educated in Toledo, where she met and later married James A. Fleig on April 15, 1953. They began their family and, through the years, Jim’s career with Sears moved the family from Toledo to Lexington, KY; Brookfield, WI; Janesville, WI; and lastly, in 1979 to Bismarck, ND.
With a loving heart, Sally encouraged her husband’s entrepreneurial spirit. As a stay-at-home mother, she took an active role in their children’s education and created a sanctuary where all who entered felt welcome. As a caring volunteer, Sally shared her talents doing hair at the St. Vincent Care Center’s beauty shop and served as a lay Eucharistic minister. She was an avid reader and read newspapers and books for the blind at the Dakota Public Library. She loved music and played the piano beautifully; no sheet music necessary. Sally was a lifelong bowler and accomplished golfer, having two holes-in-one after age 70.
Sally was a delightful woman, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a joyful, giving spirit who readily made others feel loved and appreciated.
Sally will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Jim Fleig; her three sons, Michael (Carol) Fleig of Janesville, WI, Patrick Fleig of DeWitt, MI, and David (Teresa) Fleig of Janesville, WI; her three grandchildren, Amie (Ryan) Ehle of Clovis, NM, Amber (Jake) Messmore of Wilson, NC, and Elizabeth Fleig of Madison, WI; and her four great-grandchildren, Sydney and Lily Ehle of Clovis, NM, and Grady and Zoey Messmore of Wilson, NC.
Sally was preceded in death by her stepfather, Floyd L. Adler, and her mother, Nadine M. Adler; her brothers, Bill Adler and John Adler; and her grandson, Nicholas J. Fleig.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staffs of St. Alexius Medical Center and St. Alexius Home Care and Hospice for their kind and loving care.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Corpus Christi Poor and Needy Fund.
