Victor H. Braun, 85, Mandan, formerly of McClusky, ND, lost his battle with cancer and died April 1, 2016.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 7, at 1:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service.
Victor was born December 19, 1930, the oldest child born to Bernhard and Carrie (Blumhagen) Braun on a farm near Drake, ND. He married Irene V. Huft on July 19, 1951, in Drake and celebrated the start of their lives together with a barn dance just outside of McClusky. Irene died on November 4, 2014; they had been married for 63 years. Needless to say, the last 15 months without Irene by his side were difficult.
Victor’s spent the first 16 years of his career working on the Soo Line Railroad. In 1967 Victor and Irene traded in railroad life for farm life. They had four girls together, every farmers dream.
He is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, Vickie (Doug and Katie [Gaige]) Erdmann of McClusky, LaDonna (Mike, Jake and Torrey) Underwood of Phoenix, AZ, Brenda (Stan, Stephanie and Aleisha) Seibel of Hazen, and Colleen (Allan, Austen and Lauren) Bennett of Chandler, AZ; and his brother and three sisters, Lester Braun, Carol (Vernor) Stolt, Jean Burghard, and Emmy Radke.
Victor’s passions in life were his family, railroading, farming, fishing, hunting and trapping. He simply loved to be outdoors. Sunday afternoons often consisted of him and Irene driving around the countryside checking on their animals and crops.
Victor was well known for his mischievous side of pranks and jokes as well as his one-liners. It is somewhat fitting that he passed away on April Fool’s Day. I’m pretty sure he would have told us “that’s the way the mop flops.”
On Friday, April 1, 2016, he was greeted in heaven by his wife Irene; his parents, Bernhard and Carrie; and his brother, Lowell.
