Winnifred "Winnie" Woodmansee

December 3, 1916 — April 21, 2016

Heaven gained a very special angel as Winnifred M. Woodmansee, 99, Bismarck, entered life eternal on April 21, 2016, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. A celebration of Winnie’s life will be held at 11:00 am Monday, April 25, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Pam Power officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. There will be no visitation. Winnifred M. McGillic was born December 3, 1916, the oldest daughter of Francis and Blossom (Lang) McGillic. She married Joseph G. Woodmansee on November 10, 1937. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1997. Winnie was delightful, determined, witty, and extremely devoted to and supportive of her family and friends. With seven children she realized years ago, “It takes a village to raise a family.” “The Breakfast Club” moms provided a wonderful support and networking group for mom. Winnie was involved with her children’s scouts, baseball, band, basketball, Rainbow Girls, football, dance, cheerleading, life guarding, coaching, and umpiring. Mom cheered, led, and encouraged all of her children. In 1979 Winnie was selected by the American Mother’s Committee as the North Dakota State Mother of the Year. The Bismarck Demons enjoyed her support year-round for 70-plus years. Winnie received an honorary Bismarck Booster pass acknowledging her long-time support and had specific seats at the Bowl and the Civic Center. Winnie belonged to the PEO Sisterhood for over 75 years. She was Past State President and was currently a member of Chapter AJ in Bismarck. Serving on the Heartview Board of Directors and participating in Al-Anon were personal passions. Winnie’s family is eternally grateful for the loving and caring staff at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center and the compassion from Sanford Hospice. They also thank Kathy Fleck of Bismarck, as she has been Mom’s exceptional visiting angel for the past several years. Winnie is survived by her children, Toni (Gary) Young, IL, Tom (Mary Pat) Woodmansee, Bismarck, Pat (Monte) Peterson, CO, Robert “Butch” (Mary) Woodmansee, CO, Fran (Jon) Joersz, Bismarck, Joey (Nancy) Woodmansee, Bismarck, and Kim Dopson, ID; her 18 grandchildren, Scott, Wendy, Chad, Kara, Reid, Pam, Ryan, Jeff, Joe, Jill, Josh, Brett, Ben, Courtney, Mandy Jo, Brian, Nick and Quinn; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Winnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her two young sisters, Lorraine Davis and Patricia Farnham; one nephew; and two great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: The Winnie Woodmansee Scholarship Chapter AJ PEO Sisterhood, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck Public Schools Activities (for athletes in need), or a charity of the donor’s choice.
