Allen Edward Schauer, 76, Wilton, died peacefully after a brief illness on April 21, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he spent his winters. Allen Edward Schauer was born on October 22, 1939 to Lillian (Johnson) and Edward Schauer in Underwood, ND. The fifth of seven children, Allen attended Underwood High School graduating in 1957. Allen attended Concordia College and Augustana Seminary, where he served as the president of his class. He joined the Army Reserve and was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1959. In 1960, Allen married Linda Bailey. Together they had two children, Paul Allen born on April 1, 1962 and Todd Richard born on March 20, 1963. Ordained in 1966, Allen served many Lutheran parishes in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and New Mexico throughout his 29 years as a pastor. He was celebrating the 50th anniversary of his ordination this year. His faith in God was the core of his being. Allen had a strong sense of community and was active in a number of civic organizations wherever he lived. Camp of the Cross held a special place in Allen’s heart. He attended Luther League camp as a young adult, served as a member of the board of directors, and continued to volunteer there in recent years. Allen also enjoyed the beauty of nature. He had a green thumb and enjoyed planting and tending to the new growth of trees and flowers. He volunteered in Medora, ND and was a groundskeeper where he was able to share those gifts. He also loved to explore the peaks of New Mexico and Colorado. There are many adventure stories about him driving on the backroads through the mountains. Allen was able to drive his motorhome around the United States, which brought him great joy. He even traveled to Alaska twice, which had always been a dream of his. Allen is survived by his sons, Paul Schauer and Todd (Jan) Schauer, both of Wilton, ND; five grandchildren, Todd Schauer of Farmington, NM, Tyler Schauer of El Paso, TX, Emma (Mike) Berg of Wilton, ND, Eric Schauer of Bentonville, AR, and Cory Keating of Bismarck, ND; his great-grandson, Mason Schauer of Farmington, NM; one brother, Richard Schauer of Mandan, ND; two brothers-in-law, Norm Rieke of McMinnville, OR and Ed (Ione) Schaaf of Pequot Lakes, MN; one sister-in-law, Doris Wilson of Clifton, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
