Janice “Jan” Kitzan, 72, Bismarck, died April 27, 2016, in a Bismarck Care Center.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, May 2, at Century Baptist Church, 205 Colt Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Dave Gallagher officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Sunday, May 1, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm.
Jan was born January 4, 1944, in Dickinson, ND, the daughter of George and Bertha (Hasenmaier)Reetz. She grew up on the family farm north of Hebron, ND. She attended country schools and Hebron High School. Jan moved to Bismarck where she was employed as a ward clerk in pediatrics with Bismarck Hospital. She endured the March of ’66 blizzard working three days straight at the hospital.
Jan married Warren Kitzan on June 13, 1966, in Hebron at St. John’s Church. The couple moved to Grand Forks, where Jan worked at a local hospital while Warren finished college. In the spring of 1967, they moved to Portland, OR, for two years and Jan worked as a secretary. In June 1969, they moved to Dickinson, ND, where Warren and Jan purchased apartments which Jan managed. In August 1987, they moved to Bismarck where Jan assisted with Warren’s tax service.
Jan enjoyed baking and would make goodie boxes for the grandkids; embroidery, and knitting, and would knit sweaters for the grandkids. When Melanie developed food allergies, Jan published a recipe book with substitutes for various items causing the allergy. She also taught Sunday School and AWANA. She was a member of the Good Sam Camper Club, and really enjoyed camping and fishing.
Jan is survived by her husband, Warren, Bismarck; two children, Cory (Laurie), Woodinville, WA, and Melanie Kitzan, North Bend, WA; seven grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, Emily, Ryan Kitzan, and Lydia, Claire, and Audrey Haindfield; her brother, Gary Reetz, Hebron; and her sister, Karen Peterson, New Salem.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
