Ruth Snider, 89, died April 29, at St. Vincent’s Continuing Care Center in Bismarck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ft. Yates with Fr. John Paul officiating.
Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ruth was born on March 24, 1927, in Ft. Yates, ND, to James and Louise (Hona) Alkire. She attended schools in Pierre, SD, Ft. Yates, ND, and Flandreau, SD. She then attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD.
Ruth married Jack Snider in Selby, SD. They lived in Breckenridge, MN, Rapid City, SD, and then Ft. Yates, ND, where she was a nurse at the Ft. Yates Hospital. In 1969, the family moved to Bismarck where Ruth worked for United Tribes where she was the head of Student Health, retiring in 1992. After retiring, Ruth worked for the WIC clinic in Ft. Yates and then McLaughlin, SD.
She enjoyed trips to the casino and playing cards, yatzee, and board games. Ruth was also an avid basketball fan. She loved spending time with her family and her home was always open to her family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her children, Jim (Lori) Snider, Robert (Pam) Snider, Jackie (Bruce) Benson, and Mark Snider; her grandchildren, Nick (Maria), Preston (Chelsey) and their daughter Mia, RJ, Allison (Jeff) and their daughter Corinne, Landon, Jessica, Jeremy (Kelly) and their daughter Olivia, Neil, Norah, Marissa, and Deklan; her sisters, Tillie Eastman and Effie Antell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Louise Alkire; her siblings, Samuel, William, Alvina, Marcella, Betty, Leonard, and Basil; and her nieces and nephews, and most recently a special niece, Diane Netterville.
