MaryAnn Bickler, 87, Bismarck, passed away on April 30, 2016, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Church of St. Anne in Bismarck with Rev. Corey Nelson officiating. Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
MaryAnn was born on October 12, 1928, in Strasburg, ND, to Michael and Helena (Usselman) Schumacher. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1946. MaryAnn then graduated from St. Alexius School of Nursing and worked as an operating room nurse at St. Alexius Hospital.
MaryAnn married Michael Bickler on December 31, 1951. Following their marriage, they lived in Soap Lake, WA, and Oregon while Michael was in the Air Force.
In 1955 they moved to rural Sheyenne, ND, where they farmed until 1994. MaryAnn worked at Lutheran Home of Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND, for 20 years where she enriched the lives of the residents. In 2001, MaryAnn moved to Bismarck.
MaryAnn was a master gardener and spent many hours growing and supplying her family with fresh and canned produce. She was an excellent cook. She became an avid quilter and family and friends continue to be wrapped in her beautiful creations. MaryAnn enjoyed feeding and listening to birds. She was involved in multiple service groups throughout her life.
MaryAnn is survived by her five children, MaryKay (Gerard) Baker of Miles City, MT, Michael (Kim) Bickler of Williston, Susan (Robb) Sattler of Bismarck, Julianne (Mark) Sellie of Cathay, ND, and Barbara (James) Johnson of Bismarck; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, Andrew Schumacher of Linton, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael; five sisters, Magdalena “Mac” Hinton, Genevieve Baumgartner, Bertha Fox, Helen Sathren, and Regina “Jean” Schreiner; three sisters in infancy; and one brother, Syl Schumacher.
