Dennis Arthur Guenther, 72, Bismarck, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at CHI St. Alexius Health.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 12, at 2:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in New Salem.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service and will continue on Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dennis was born on January 7, 1944, to Arthur and Gladys (Hansen) Guenther of Judson, ND. He attended Spring Valley country school south of Judson and graduated from New Salem High School in 1961. He attended BJC for two years and then went to Valley City Teacher’s College and graduated with an elementary teaching degree. Dennis did custom harvesting before, during, and after college.
Dennis married Margaret Fadness of Reeder, ND, on October 14, 1967. To this union two sons and one daughter were born.
He taught school in Burlington, ND, for several years. Dennis farmed at Alamo, ND, and Isabel, SD, before moving to the Fadness Homestead near Reeder, ND, in 1980. Dennis farmed, drove truck, and did custom harvesting over the next decades.
In 2010, Dennis and Margaret moved into Hettinger, ND, from the farm. In May of 2016, they moved to Bismarck, ND, due to Dennis’s declining health to be closer to family and medical care.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 48 ½ years, Margaret, Bismarck; two sons, Marc (Lisa) Guenther, New Salem, and Mike (Kelly) Elko, BC, Canada; one daughter, Kristen (Mike) Jahner, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Emily Lorius, Lemmon, SD, Megan and Aaron Guenther, New Salem, and Trey Jahner, Bismarck; one sister, Ardys (Gerald) Olson, Mandan; one brother, Roger (Sharon) Guenther, Kileen, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
