Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 13, at United Church of Christ, 1200 E Highland Acres Rd., Bismarck.
Evelyn Whitney, 99, was born April 12, 1917 in Onondaga, Michigan to Ray and Ruby (Haven) Whitney. She grew up on the family farm and attended school locally with her brothers Morris and Warren. Evelyn went on to attend Michigan State University where she met her future husband, Harry W Kinne. They were married on March 18, 1943. Harry accepted a position as a veterinarian with the USDA in Bismarck, North Dakota so they moved west. In 1945 Evelyn and Harry moved to Jamestown, ND where Harry went into private practice. They were there for the next 20 years. Evelyn was always active with the Congregational United Church of Christ among other organizations. She also taught for several years at Jamestown College (U of Jamestown) after the birth of her son, Dan.
Harry went back to work as a federal veterinarian and this allowed Evelyn the opportunity to move and live in various locations across the country from New York to Texas. They ended up back in Bismarck, ND where Harry finished out his career and they retired there. During these years Evelyn was active in volunteering for the Red Cross in several locations as well as the Bismarck United Church of Christ where she participated in various roles. She was also an avid artist rendering a number of beautiful paintings. They had many friends and always enjoyed entertaining them.
After Harry (Doc Kinne) passed away in June, 1999, Evelyn continued her busy schedule for many years. Even as her health declined she remained positive and demonstrated her zest for life. She only gave up her home in Bismarck in February, 2015 and moved into the Sanford on Sunset Care Center where she passed away peacefully on June 17, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother Morris.
She is survived by her brother Warren of Lansing, MI, son Dan (Pegi) of Las Vegas, NV, grandchildren Rhonda (Randy) Gonzales, Pueblo, CO, Adam, Las Vegas, NV, Leigh, Huntington Beach, CA, and Gillian, Las Vegas, longtime caregivers Dan and Sue Boehm of Bismarck along with four great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
