Darlene was born on December 11, 1934, to Leo and Emma (Helfenstein) Goll on the family farmstead. She was raised and educated in the Regan area and graduated salutatorian of her class in 1953. On November 1, 1953, she married Alfred John Blatter and together they had three children.
While Darlene had a variety of jobs over the years, she always said that her most beloved job was that of being a mother, grandmother, and finally a great-grandmother. She loved to garden and enjoyed her flowers tremendously, and to travel, including her yearly trips to Medora. She also loved to dance, read, do puzzles, and play card games and board games, especially with her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to attend her grandchildren’s band concerts, choir concerts, soccer games, school programs, and grandparent’s day at school. She also was the primary caregiver for her husband after he was severely injured in an automobile accident in 1986. She always rose to a challenge and did things her way until the very end.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alfred; her son, Allen (Sandy); her son, Walter (Tammy) and their daughter, Allison; her daughter, Debby (Randy Schmidt) and Debby’s children, Angie Glatt and Michael Glatt (Amy Hopgood) and their daughter, Kayleigh; her brother, Leo (Audre) Goll; her brother-in-law, Albert Sayler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, John and Magdalena Blatter; her sister, Arlis Jochim; and her in-laws, Ted and Esther Blatter, Dorothy Sayler, Frank Forderer, and Lorraine and Bill Graf.
She will be missed forever and remembered always.
