John James Fettig, 69, Bismarck, died June 24, 2016, at CHI St. Alexius Health after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Thomas R. Marcis, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
John was born December 24, 1946, on a farm south of Mott, ND, to Joseph and Rose (Ibach) Fettig. John worked for various farmers in the Mott region until 1966 when he moved to Bismarck. He married Betty Friesz on November 3, 1966.
John worked for Viking Homes, Dayton’s Corp., and Klemetson Woodworks. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Sanford valet parking and most recently at Dakota Community Bank until two weeks before his death. He was a volunteer of Bismarck Rural Fire Department for 16 years and a member of Zion Lutheran Church for 40 years.
His hobbies included woodworking, gardening and yard work. His lawn was the envy of many people. He and Betty enjoyed numerous trips with the Dakota Community Good Neighbor Club. They made some near and dear friends through their travels.
John is survived by his wife Betty, Bismarck; his sons Scott, Minneapolis, MN, and Darrel (Holly), Menoken; grandchildren, Johnathan and Joseph Fettig, Menoken, and Marissa Langseth, Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Phyllis Otto, Indiana, and Mary (Ron) Miller, Bismarck; brothers, George (Charlotte), Mandan, Frank (Sandy), Hettinger, Larry, Iowa, and Jim (Nancy), Bismarck; sisters-in-law, Naomi Friesz, Bismarck, and Michele Fettig, San Diego, CA; brother-in-law, Arnie Meduna, Williston; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose Fettig; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Martha Friesz; sisters, Theresa Meier and Betty Meduna; brothers, Mike, Joe and Arnie Fettig; brothers-in-law, Mark Friesz and Tony Meier; and sister-in-law, Marion Fettig.
