Carol LaVonne Ankenbauer, 86, Bismarck, died July 27, 2016, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, July 29, 2016, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Carol was born on March 9, 1930, in Norma, ND, the daughter of C.D. “Dick” and Laura Marie (Lund) Dickerson. She was raised in Norma and later in Kenmare where she graduated from high school in 1948. Carol met and married the love of her life, Alden Joe Ankenbauer, on September 7, 1948, in Kenmare. As Carol often said, “we met over a mouse.” The couple lived in Kenmare where Carol’s greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting and made numerous afghans for all. Carol was an amazing baker and cook and there was never a shortage of baked goodies at holidays or when a friend and neighbor stopped by. Carol is survived by her children, Mari (Dennis) Dean, San Tan Valley, AZ, Lori (Joel) Lawson, Minot, ND, Jeffery (Robin) Ankenbauer, Mandan, ND, David (Colleen) Ankenbauer, Maryville, TN; 11 grandchildren, Lindsay (Sean) Cato, Chad (Angie) Jensen, Jackie (Josh) Schmalz, Tia Knutson (Shawn Durward), Lora (Casey) St. Croix, JorDan Lawson, Joe C. Ankenbauer, David Ankenbauer Jr., Shauntae Ankenbauer, Christopher (Shanna) Dean, Marshall (Rebecca) Dean; and 13 great-grandchildren, Benjamin Ankenbauer, Evan Jenson, Dylan Knutson, Paige Durward, Logan Durward, Cade Pederson, Alex Dean, Caleb Dean, Mila Jenson, Jerzee St. Croix, Jagger St. Croix, Ella Dean, and Bervella Schmalz. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2013; her sister, Harriet Briggle; and her brother, Orville Dickerson.
