Evelyn Dirk

Evelyn Dirk, 87, died August 20, 2016, at Sanford Health Care Center off Sunset, Mandan. Services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at United Church of Christ, 1200 E Highland Acres Rd., Bismarck, with Rev. Gretchen Deeg officiating. Burial will be held at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, New Salem, ND. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Evelyn was born September 26, 1928, in Morton County, the daughter of Henry and Lydia (Swoboda) Gappert. She grew up on the family farm in Blue Grass, ND. Evelyn married Clarence Conitz on October 30, 1950, and to this union their three children were born, Leon, Pat, and Douglas. Evelyn started her first retail job at Lee Store in 1961. After 12 years she went on to Kmart to manage the jewelry department and retired from there after 20 years. Later in her retirement years, she worked for Dan’s Supervalu as a food demonstrator. Evelyn was well known and recognized by many in her community. Evelyn met and married Tony Dirk on June 18, 1975. The couple loved traveling and enjoying time at the Eagles, especially for dinner and dancing. She loved her family and especially caring for her grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by her son, Leon (Norleen) Conitz, Mandan, and daughter, Pat (Del) Green, Prior Lake, MN; her grandchildren, Michael Swenson, Amy (Bill) Barton, Michelle (Jason Haenlein) Swenson, Michael (Darla Sage) Conitz, Michelle (Clint) Kohler, Jason (Alyssa) Conitz, Stef (Ryan) Aday; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Marjorie (Lloyd) Stelter; her sister-in-law, Vendora Gappert; her numerous nieces and nephews; Tony Dirk’s children, JoAnn Schafer, Mandan, Dave (Rose) Dirk, Mandan, Chuck (Leslie), OR, Carol (Ron) Hawes, AZ, Kathy (Roger) Sailer, Bismarck, Betty Hirsch, OR, Cleo (Dave) Fink, Bismarck, Dwight (Rita) Dirk, Bismarck, Carlotta (Phil) Miller, Bismarck, Arlene (Willie) Volk, Bismarck, Tony (Bev) Dirk, KS, Alan (Cathy) Dirk, Bismarck, Renee (Pete) Klein, Bismarck, 68 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and special friend, Gizzmo. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; her son, Douglas Conitz; her grandson, Chad Conitz; great-grandson, Logan Conitz; granddaughter-in-law, Kelly Conitz; and her brothers, Art and Hank Gappert.
