Dan was born May 4, 1919, on a farm near Washburn to Jake and Lizzie (Bolendar) Bauer. He married Freida Wagner in 1939 and they lived on a farm for several years near there. They had four children. Dan went to work on the Garrison Dam for about five years until the dam was finished. He then went to Caracas, Venezuela, South America, and worked construction for 18 months. When he returned, he married Pauline Knutson and they farmed near Regan and Baldwin until their retirement, when they moved to Bismarck in 1979. Dan always loved farming and taking care of animals.
Dan was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved playing pool with his grandsons, and playing pinochle with friends. In his later years, he met a special friend, Lavern Hale, who took good care of him until he moved to the Good Samaritan Society.
Dan belonged to Century Baptist Church and always enjoyed Lee Miller reading scripture and praying with him. He loved God with his whole heart and patiently waited for Him to take him home.
Dan is survived by his son, Ronald (Marlene) Bauer, Bismarck; daughter, Janet (Richard) Knoll, CA; step-daughter, Bette (Terry) Bergan, Sterling; sister, Edith Walker, OR; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; his daughter, Marian Schlittenhart; his son, Melvin Bauer; his parents; two sisters; four brothers; and several other family members.
The family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Society for their excellent care and love for Dan.
