Frieda Rehberg

February 29, 1924 — September 14, 2016

Frieda (Keller) Rehberg was born on Leap Day, 1924 in Halliday, North Dakota. On September 14, 2016, at the age of 92, Frieda left us to be reunited with her parents Jacob and Louisa (Knoll) Keller and 6 older siblings; Johanna, Hilda, Ida, Tena, Gotthilf, and Bill. Services will be on Monday, September 19, at 1:00 at Zion Lutheran Church, 413 Avenue D East, Bismarck, with Rev. Thomas R. Marcis, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am Monday, September 19, at the Baptist Health Care Center, 3400 Nebraska Dr. Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Frieda attended school in Halliday through the 8th grade, an education she cherished. It was also in Halliday that she met her sweetheart and favorite dancing partner, Herbert Rehberg. Herb and Frieda were married on January 29, 1942. Shortly following Herb’s return from WWII, their son Gary was born. Always a devoted wife and mother, Frieda also found great reward in work as a cashier at Anderson’s Super Valu in Halliday, then Super Valu in Bismarck, and finally as a clerk at Dee’s Coffee Mug in the Federal building. After retirement, Herb and Frieda enjoyed coffee with friends at Kirkwood mall, camping at Sugarloaf, and time with their granddaughter, Jeanette, born on their 41st wedding anniversary. When cancer took Herb in 1991, Frieda moved to the Crescent Manor in south Bismarck. There she kept busy with her other true love: cooking. Her energy was endless; canning pickles and jelly, cooking strudels, dumplings, pies, cookies, and glorious holiday dinners. There were always cookies in the freezer just waiting to be dipped into a cup of hot tea to go with a game of Rummy, Old Maid, or dominoes. In her later years, Frieda became a resident at the Baptist Healthcare Center. She kept involved in the community through bingo, bible study, and Sunday church service. She also loved both word and picture puzzles and read the Bismarck Tribune front to back every day, closely following local and global events. Her 23rd Leap Year birthday on February 29, 2016 was a community celebration for her and fellow residents with balloons, ice cream, and cake. Frieda is survived by her son Gary (Linda) Rehberg, granddaughter Jeanette, sister- in-law, Esther Wegner, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Frieda’s family offers sincere gratitude to the Baptist Home Care Center staff for their empathy, patience, and commitment. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
