Delia “Dee” Hammel, 97, passed away October 16, 2016 at the Touchmark Retirement Community in Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 20, at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N 2nd St., Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating.
Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 19, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dee was born February 2, 1919 in Dunn County, ND, to James and Edith (Knowlton) Darcy. She attended school in Werner, ND, and Rochester, MN. After high school Dee moved to Seattle, WA, where she attended secretarial college. She married Wilbert “Bill” Hammel in Seattle, WA, on September 14, 1940. Dee and Bill returned to North Dakota in 1947 and resided in Hebron until 1965 when they moved to Bismarck.
Dee worked for the US General Services Administration in Bismarck until her retirement in 1989. After retirement Dee kept busy volunteering, enjoying woodcarving and aerobics, and as a caregiver for Bill until his death in 2005.
Dee is survived by her children, James (Pamela) of Crowley TX, Linda (Robert) Jurgens of Taylor ND, and Pamela (Paul) Jenny of Snellville, GA; seven grandchildren; seven-great grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; five brothers; and two sisters.
