Jerry Karlstad, 72, Mandan, died October 19, 2016, at Sanford Care Center off Collins, Mandan.
Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 22, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1020 Boundary St NW, Mandan, with Rev. Mark Drews officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday, October 21, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be held at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Jerry was born March 27, 1944, in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Horace and Louise (Dagner) Karlstad. He married Judy Wickham on May 23, 1962, in Fergus Falls. Jerry served in the US Air Force. He moved his family to Mandan, ND, in January of 1976, and worked for M & H Gas Station until 1980, when he went to Cloverdale Foods as packing supervisor until his retirement. He played legion baseball in high school and softball in his adult life until rheumatoid arthritis prevented him from doing so. He talked fondly about his Cloverdale days at the end of his life.
Jerry was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, which he attended until his illness prevented him from going out. He enjoyed hunting with all of his grandsons and adored all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Judy; four daughters, Sherry (Mark) Zander, Patty (Ken) Sjomeling, Lorie (Clint) Ennen, and Rhonda (Dan) Rhoden; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Preston) McKay, Brendon (Angela) Zander, Michael Sjomeling, Brian (Kim) Sjomeling, Jason Sjomeling, Denver (Adrianna) Ennen, Navada (Austin Tompkins) Ennen, Brittany (Tim) Ell, Kaelee (Matthew Schirado) Rhoden; nine great-grandchildren, Bryce and Emma McKay, Meredith Zander, Hailey, David and Savanna Sjomeling, Saige Tardiff, Nohla and Daxton Ell; sisters-in-law, Charlotte (Jerry) Knutson, Sonia (Duane) Brown, Kay Wickham, and Rose Wickham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Louise Karlstad; sister, Darlene (Arvid) Lein; brother, Dennis (Grace) Karlstad; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ona and Charles Wickham; sisters-in-law, Agnes Wickham and Donna Anderson; brothers-in-law, Henry Wickham, Harley Wickham, Jake Wickham, Lloyd Wickham, Robert Peck, and LeRoy Peck; and one great-niece, Dana Platow.
