Daniel R. Bartels, 69, passed away October 21, 2016, at Sanford Health Continuing Care Center, Mandan.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 801 East Denver Ave., Bismarck, with the Rev. Les Wolfgram officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday, October 26, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave., Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service at the church Thursday.
Dan was born October 6, 1947, in Pierre, SD, the son of Bill and Erma (McBride) Bartels. He attended and graduated from Rapid City Central. After moving to Bismarck, he was employed with BisMan Security until he was severely injured in a car accident in early 1975, which resulted in him being paralyzed later in life. He went on to work at Midway Lanes Bowling alley where his father, Bill, was part owner at the time. He married the love of his life, Jane, on January 24, 1976, at which time he gained 2 step-children who he treated as his own.
His hobbies included, fishing, hunting (especially Antelope), Bowling, playing pool (in his younger years), watching all types of sports, and NASCAR on TV, and he especially loved bugging the nurses, but it was out of love. He also liked playing Bingo, and spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his (step) daughter Cheryl (Scott) Roberts-Kubas, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Ashley (Nick Reindel) and Aundrea (Jacob Schulz) Budeau, Dani, Tyler, Tori and Tiana Roberts, two step-granddaughters, Jennifer and Sierra Kubas; two great-grandsons, Tyrel Christmann Jr, and Ian Roberts; two great-granddaughters, Naveah Schulz and Charlotte Roberts; one brother, Mike Bartels; one sister, Janice Bartels; four brothers-in-law, Butch Sicble, Roger(Jean) Sicble, Bob (Brenda) Sicble and Jeff Sicble; one sister-in-law, Deb (Doug) Kroh; his great grandson’s father, Tyrel Christmann Sr.; many nieces and nephews; and the amazing staff at the nursing home where he resided.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Bartels; his stepson, Roy Roberts; his parents, Bill (Erma) Bartels; His father-in-law and mother in law, Roy(Helen) Sicble; his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and their loving cat, Thunder.
