Roger was born in Cando, ND, to Glenn E. and Lauretta (Lunde) Long. He was a 1978 graduate of Bottineau High School and a 1995 graduate of Minot State University with a degree in accounting. Roger, the owner of Accounting and Tax Services on College Drive since 2005, loved to talk about hunting, fishing, or playing golf with his many happy customers. He believed in valuing his customers as friends, not just as clients. Choosing not to advertise in local media, Roger chose to grow his business through “word of mouth” from other satisfied customers. The business began in 2005 with 300 accounts, and today Accounting and Tax Services proudly serves over 1,400 accounts throughout the United States.
Roger was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing in Montana alone or with his dad Glenn and “the Long boys,” many longtime buddies, and nephews Scot Long and Wade Long. He was known to carry a gigantic mug of hot black coffee with him at all times, even on the hottest of days. Also, he loved gardening and often spent time just sitting in a lawn chair, watching his garden grow. Becoming a grandfather to four beautiful grandchildren had been one of Roger’s greatest joys. Roger was bigger than life, as those who knew him would tell you.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Linda D. Long; his children, Jacob Glenn Long (Brittany) of Clinton, MS, Beth Putz (Zach) of Mandan, and Joshua Taylor Long; mother, Lauretta Long of Bismarck; two brothers, Jerry Long (Connie) of Lake Metigoshe, ND, and Larry Long (JoAnn) of Janesville, WI; one sister, Carla Pentecost (Jeff) of Portland, OR; sister-in-law, Cheryl Long, Great Falls, MT; and a large family of nieces and nephews. Roger was especially proud of his four grandchildren, Weston, Addison, Drew, and Adeline.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Glenn E. Long; and his brother, David Lee Long.
