Carol "Jo" JoAnn Sparrow

Carol JoAnn Sparrow, 83, died October 21, 2016, at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, in Bismarck, ND. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 1143 N 26th St., Bismarck, with Pastor Nadine Lehr officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm through 7:00pm Monday, October 24, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Ave, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 6:30 pm. Burial will follow the funeral at McClusky City Cemetery, McClusky, ND, at 2:00pm. Carol JoAnn “Jo” Sparrow was born November 26, 1932, in Jamestown, ND, the daughter of Herbert G. and Helen (Booth) Prince. She attended schools in Jamestown, Finley, and McClusky, graduating from McClusky High School in 1950. She married Edgar A. Sparrow on May 20, 1951. They farmed in the McClusky area until moving to Bismarck the fall of 1956. She was employed at Provident Life Insurance Company until retiring in 1990. Jo was a charter member of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND. Jo enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved getting lost in a good book. Her hobbies included crocheting and knitting making many precious items for her family and loved ones. She is survived by her daughter, Marcy (Dave) Porterfield; three granddaughters, Samantha Jo (Nate) Oviatt, Megan Porterfield, and Amanda (Matt) Mees; two great-granddaughters, Marion Taylor Boehm and Holli Mae Mees and four great-grandsons, David Zion Mees, Ezra Vern Mees, Max Oviatt, and William Oviatt; four brothers, Edward Prince, Herbert (Maryline) Prince, Dean (Betty) Prince, James (Lil) Prince; one sister, Andrea (Jerry) Kluck; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar (May 1998); her son, Michael; her parents, Herbert and Helen Prince; her sisters, Polly Sparrow and Mary Ellen Swendson; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Prince and Patsy Prince; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Swendsen and Jon Sparrow.
