Joe "Rick" Haugen

March 26, 1947 — November 9, 2016

Joe Richard “Rick” Haugen, 69, Bismarck, died peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning, November 9, 2016. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 14, at 11:00 AM at GracePoint Church in Bismarck with Rev. Kevin Lardy officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service where a prayer service will begin at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Rick was born on March 26, 1947, in Duncan, OK, the son of Einar and Priscilla Haugen. He was raised and attended school in Parshall, ND, and graduated from Parshall High School. He then attended Minot State University and graduated with a degree in business education. Rick married Ardyce Huus on June 4, 1967. He taught business education for ten years in Wolf Point, MT. He then sold insurance for Farmers Union Insurance Company for three years in Dickinson, ND, before moving back to Parshall in 1982 to take over his dad’s Super Valu grocery store. Rick and Ardyce operated the Super Valu grocery store in Parshall for 13 years. He was also on the board of directors for Reservation Telephone Cooperative during that time. Then in 1995, they moved to Steele, ND, and shortly after, they moved to Bismarck, ND. Rick also worked at Charity Lutheran Church and Evangelical Free Church during his years in Bismarck. Rick and Ardyce enjoyed spending each and every day together. They owned and operated Grandmas Greenhouse every summer for 12 years. They also enjoyed traveling and selling their crafts at “Pride of Dakota” shows. Most of all, Rick really enjoyed his five grandchildren. He loved traveling and going to all of their activities, games, and events. He really loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was a very kind and faithful man. He was always willing to help anybody and do anything for anyone. Rick dedicated his life to loving and serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He read the bible and did his devotions faithfully every morning. He could easily recite bible verses and passages. Rick is greatly loved and will be missed by so many people that he touched. Rick is survived by his wife, Ardyce; his daughters Pamela (Dan) Donlin and Lynette (Shannon) Julson; and five grandchildren, Mallory (17), Jocelyn (14), Jack (8), Ty (6) and Luke (5). He is also survived by his mother, Priscilla; three brothers, Dave, Bob, and Charles; and three sisters, Marge, Phyllis, and Linda.
