Evelyn I. Hunke, 89, Bismarck, died November 14, 2016, at the Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, November 17, at the Baptist Health Care Center, with Rev. Merle Hoots officiating.
There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.
Entombment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Evelyn I. was born November 8, 1927, in Morton Co., south of Mandan, ND, to Thomas A. and Elsie Ida (Seiferth) Haugen. She was raised and educated in Morton Co., and graduated from Mandan High School in 1945. Evelyn worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Farmers Union Oil Co.
On December 4, 1946, Evelyn married Edwin M. Hunke in Wibaux, MT. After raising their children, Evelyn worked in the office at Northridge Elementary School. The family moved to Park Rapids, MN, in 1966, where Evelyn worked as a dental assistant. In 1968, Ed was transferred to Mundelein, IL, where they resided until their return to Bismarck in 1973. While in Mundelein, Evelyn worked in the principal’s office at Oak Grove Elementary School. Back in Bismarck, she began employment at Q & R Clinic as cashier and in New Patient Registration. She retired in 1988. The couple lived in Bismarck, but wintered in Yuma, AZ. Edwin died in Bismarck on November 23, 2002.
Evelyn enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing bridge with the girls. She was active in PTA, was a den mother for Boy Scouts and a Girl Scout leader, taught Sunday School, and had fond memories of her time with the Cozy Homemaker Club. Evelyn was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church. She was a resident at the Baptist Health Care Center for the past 3 ½ years. Evelyn loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. William A. and Renae Hunke, Middletown, DE; her two daughters and one son-in-law, Lynda F. and Timothy Brosz, Bismarck, and Janice Storhaug, Fargo; her six grandchildren, Emily Otero, Eagleville, PA, Alyssa Schwartz, Downingtown, PA, Kate Hunke, Port St. Lucie, FL, Kristi Reich, Fargo, Benjamin Ferderer, Fredrick, MD, and Kasey Black, Fargo; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Floyd Haugen, Bismarck; her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Grant Unkenholz, Breckenridge, MN; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Haugen, Eagle River, WI, and Julie Haugen, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; her parents; her sister, Lucille Rask; two brothers, Albert and Herb Haugen; and her son-in-law, Kevin Storhaug.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Baptist Health Care Center, 3400 Nebraska Dr., Bismarck, ND, 58503.
