Russell C. Vogel, 67, Pettibone, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Sanford Health, Fargo, on November 13, 2016. Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, November 17, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Private family burial will take place Friday, November 18, 2016, at Weiser Township Cemetery. Russell was born on May 28, 1949, in Jamestown, ND, to Marvin and Ethel (McCrae) Vogel. He was raised on his family farm in Pettibone, ND. Russell graduated from Pettibone High School in 1967 and attended NDSU and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Valley City State College in 1974. Russell was married to Valerie (Thorsness) Vogel from 1973 to 1991 and had two children, David and Mary Ellen. Russell enjoyed many careers over the years including accounting, carpentry, farming, and most recently over the road trucking. He retired in 2014 and enjoyed spending his time at the family farm in Pettibone. Russell met his significant other, Ruth Zidon, in 1994 and enjoyed spending time with her and her family. Russell is survived by his son, David (Jen) of Goodhue, MN and daughter, Mary Ellen (Mike) Rolfson of West Fargo, ND; mother, Ethel of Jamestown, ND; brothers, Bruce (Irene) of Dickinson, ND; Clyde of Tuttle, OK; Clifford of Steele, ND; and sister, Patty (Dale) Newman of Clackamas, OR; grandchildren Logan (13) and Shelby (9); Parker (9), Brayden (6), and Cullen (6 weeks); significant other, Ruth and family; four nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin.
