Harry Basaraba, 78, Mandan, died November 15, 2016, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 19, at the Washburn United Methodist Church, with Rev. Cory Thrall officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday, November 18, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck.
Harry W. Basaraba was born May 29, 1938, on the family farm north of Wilton, ND, the son of John and Mary (Palaniuk) Basaraba. He grew up on the farm and attended grade and high school in Wilton. He attended North Dakota State University. He married the love of his life, Judy Sprout, on June 17, 1961, at McClusky, ND. The couple made their home on the family farm, where Harry farmed until 2000.
Harry served on the Wilton School Board, Farmers Union Elevator, and served a term on the Board of the Farmer’s Union Oil Station. Following his retirement, Harry and Judy moved to Washburn until 2013, when they moved to Mandan.
Harry was an avid antique collector and enjoyed attending auctions and threshing shows. Harry enjoyed visiting and having coffee or a pop with his friends at the local Washburn Cenex Station. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed indulging the grandkids sweet tooth by buying them candy.
Harry is survived by his wife, Judy, Mandan; his three daughters, Bonnie (Chad Stroh), Bismarck, Karla (Glenn) Wolf, Bismarck, and Mary Kay (Terry) Ochsner, Beulah; his four grandchildren: Tyler (Jana) Wolf and their children, Ruby Grace and Raleigh William; Jesse Wolf; Trenton (Megan) Ochsner and their son, Caleb; and Erika Ochsner; one sister, Olga Noon, Bismarck; sister-in-law, Peggy Dockter, McClusky; brother-in-law, Donald (Pat) Sprout, Fargo; niece, Deb (Bill) Knuth; and nephew, Donnie (Pauline) Noon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Pearl; four brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
Grandpa enjoy your big auction sale in the sky, but grandma says no more butter churns or pens. We love and will miss you always.
