John Delmar Barth, 76, Bismarck, passed away surrounded by his family on November 17, 2016, in Fargo, ND.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, November 23, at Church of St. Anne, 1321 Braman Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Wayne Sattler officiating.
Burial will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 22, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil/rosary will begin at 7:00 pm.
John was born in Kensal, ND, on September 12, 1940, and was raised on a farm west of Richardton, ND, to John and Pauline (Steckler) Barth. He attended Assumption Abbey in Richardton and graduated in 1958. He went on to serve in the United States Army from 1958 - 1960.
On December 27, 1962, he married Edith Franchuk in Dickinson, ND. They moved to Bismarck, ND, in 1966, and together they raised five children.
John worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years and retired in 2000. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He was a wonderful story teller and had a knack to make anyone laugh. He loved his family and took every opportunity he could to watch any activities in which his kids and grandkids participated. It was his greatest joy. He also loved spending time with his friends playing cards and attending high school sporting events and was an avid booster for the St. Mary’s Saints. He was always busy fixing and repairing things and in his spare time he never turned down the chance to make a visit to the casino.
He is survived by his wife Edith, his four daughters, Sue (Sherman) Wehlander, Fargo, ND; Sherry (Darren) Galt, Beresford, SD; Steph (Gary) Dauenhauer, Fargo, ND; Rhonda (Cedric) Layton, Bedford, TX; his one son, Greg, St. Louis Park, MN; his grandchildren, Allie and Emily Quamme, Mercedes and Dakota Galt, Sydney, Shayne and Dylan Dauenhauer, Alyssa and Arika Barth, Keelan and Jackson Layton and one great-grandson, Ashton Quamme . He is also survived by his sisters, Lorraine Thompson and Lucille Wendt; and his brothers, Vince and Gerald Barth; as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Larry and Robert Barth; his sisters , Bernice Meyer and Caroline Pechtl; three brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be sent to the St. Mary’s Central High School Building Fund in memory of John.
