Raymond Noel Wehrman was the youngest son born to Paul G. and Helen (Lemire) Wehrman on December 20, 1941, in Dickinson, ND. Raymond grew up on the family ranch near Sentinel Butte, ND. He attended grade school in Golva and graduated from Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND. He served four years in the US Navy and was able to travel to many places.
Raymond married Jeanne Marie Fischer, a local girl, on July 30, 1966, in St. Mary’s Church in Golva, ND. Ray was employed at the Leslie Connell ranch near Medora while Jeanne finished college. Ray and Jeanne bought the Wehrman home ranch and lived there until 2011. They built many new buildings to improve the ranch and added more land. They lived on the ranch until medical problems forced them to sell the ranch to two nephews and move to Bismarck. But Raymond’s heart was always on the ranch. He loved nature, animals, and outdoor life. Spring was always his favorite season with new life. He brought many bouquets of wild flowers in for his wife and supported her teaching career in many ways. Raymond loved hunting and fishing whenever he could.
Ray was an avid reader and collected Louis L ’amour books and several others. In later years, he built dozens of toys and antique cars from wood. Most great nieces and nephews were given one of his toys. Family, friends, and fundraisers were recipients of his talents. Raymond made many baskets and gifts for his wife.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeanne Wehrman; siblings, Theresa Burns, Portland, OR, Joann Schillo, Bismarck, Gerhardt Wehrman, Creston, BC, Canada, Virginia (Irvin) Bares, Beach, ND, and Dorothy Holt, Vancouver, BC, Canada; sister-in-law, Millie Wehrman, Billings, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Paul Wehrman; brothers, George and Eugene; sister, Mary Maddox; brothers-in-law, Jan Burns, Dick Holt, Joseph Schillo, Dace Maddox; and sister-in-law, Alison Wehrman.
