Steve Woodcox was born Sept. 30, 1941, to Cathryn Knicklebine Woodcox and ER "Bill" Woodcox in Rochester, Indiana. His Father "Bill" Worked for Armour Creameries and was transferred to Lincoln, Illinois, Woodward, Oklahoma and to Bismarck in 1949. Steve attended Roosevelt Grade School, Bismarck Junior High School and graduated from BHS in 1959. He attended Bismarck Junior College for 2 years.
Steve was a good all-around athlete and loved playing basketball, junior legion baseball and baseball at BSC. His favorite game was golf. He was a self-taught golfer and loved to travel around North Dakota to play in tournaments and won money. He held the course record, a 66, at Riverwood Gulf Course for many years. Steve was in the dry cleaning business all of his adult life. Owning or managing cleaners in Bismarck, Brookings, SD, Kerrville, TX, and Dallas, TX.
In 1997 he married his sweetheart, Lynn McDade, in Kerrville, TX. They moved from Dallas to Bismarck in 2007, where he worked at Arrowhead Cleaners until his passing.
Steve loved to gamble and would bet on almost anything from the horses, to football, golf or the turn of a card. He loved it all. He was an accomplished bridge and gin player. His greatest passion was fishing at Leaf Lake, MN. He started fishing at Leaf Lake in the early 50's and rarely missed his annual trip or two with family and friends. Going to the same old holes time and time again. He always claimed to the "Best Walleye Fisherman on the lake" and would be willing to make a bet on it at any time. This "Claim" IS sorely disputed by his family and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife of 19 years, Patricia Lynn; his daughter, Joe, Fargo; his son, Troy, San Francisco; and his brother, Jerry (Donna) of Bismarck.
Steve was preceded in his death by his parents.
