Terry Scott Strand

Terry Scott Strand, 58, Steele, died December 26, 2016. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 30, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Steele, ND, with Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, December 29, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where an evening prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 31, at Aurdal Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Aurdal Cemetery in Portland, ND, with Pastor Karen Seifert officiating. Terry was born April 25, 1958, in Mayville, ND, to Maynard and Edith (Karlstad) Strand, and raised in Portland, ND. After completing high school at Mayville-Portland, he went on to Mayville State where he received a BA in business and later completed graduate banking school in Colorado. He loved playing football and was inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in 1998. He married his “favorite classmate”, Mary Ellen von Ruden, on February 22, 1980. Terry started his career at First State Bank of Buxton and in 1999 moved to Steele and joined Bank of Steele, later known as Northland Financial and currently Choice Financial. He said many times that he had the best staff ever. Terry was very community minded and involved in numerous organizations. Terry loved playing football, cribbage, golf, woodworking, making wine, mastering lefsa, and life at Golden Lake. His favorites included the color blue, the song, “Color My World”, the band, Sugarland, and his loving family. Terry leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Mary Ellen, Steele; his son, Tyler (Tevia), Thief River Falls, MN; daughters, Stephanie (Mikey Colling), and Anna (Ryan) Heinen, all of Bismarck; his granddaughters, who put the sparkle in his eyes, Taysha Colling, Rylee, Leah, and Briella Heinen, and Kayzlee and Calia Strand; his brothers, Merle (Gail), Wayne, Tim (Sue), Kevin (Lisa); several outlaws, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many of his friends, but especially Hoffmans, Bakkums, and Sands. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law, Georgia; and several aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, memorial can be given to Cottonwood Golf Course or St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
