Ardelle Lorraine Girard, 70, of Bismarck, died January 2, 2017, at CHI St. Alexius hospital in Bismarck, after a long, strenuous battle with cancer.
The funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Friday, January 6, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Father Paul Becker officiating.
Visitation will be 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 5, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Ardelle will be interred at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bismarck in the spring.
Ardelle was born August 11, 1946, in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, the first of two children to the late Paul and Muril (Hagen) Sletten. She was raised on a farm near Nisswa, Minnesota, and attended high school and junior college in Brainerd, Minnesota.
Ardelle married Rolland Girard on July 29, 1967, in Nisswa, Minnesota. They had two children, Michele and Curtis. After living in Michigan for a few years, the family settled in Bismarck in 1977, where Ardelle focused on creating a loving and stable home. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She volunteered with Girl Scouts as a troop leader and served as the area Girl Scout Nut Chairperson. She volunteered in the office at Corpus Christi Church and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She enjoyed holiday decorating and making traditional holiday foods. Ardelle loved her grandchildren and great-grandchild, and enjoyed attending their concerts and events. She was an important part of the upbringing of her grandchildren. In their retirement, Ardelle and Rolland wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona, where they were active members of the Road Haven community. She will be missed by many and not forgotten.
Ardelle is survived by her husband Rolland; daughter Michele Stockert (Brad) and their sons Dylan and Connor; son Curt (Lori Wright) and his daughter Kassandra and great-grandchild Jackie Shinn, and Lori’s daughter Macy, all of Bismarck; sister Arlene Hart (Ron) of Baxter, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents.
